Caring For Your Corn Snake
Hatching
When hatching time arrives, the little corn snake will slit the egg shell with it's egg tooth. It will then stay inside the egg for about 24 hours until it has digested the yolk. It's important that you not disturb and scare the hatchling out of the egg at this time. The yolk will be it's first meal, and can help it get a great start.
After hatchling, the corn snake should be placed in a new container with a water dish and wet substrate... damp paper towels, peat moss, or spaghnum moss work well. The purpose of this damp substrate is to make sure the snake's first shed is complete and goes well. The little hatchlings should have their first shed about a week after hatching. Generally, the hatchlings are offered food after their first shed.
