Slugs (non-fertile eggs) have a different appearance than eggs. The slugs usually have a yellower appearance. A few days after laying, the eggs can be "candled" by placing a cool touch flashlight up against them. If an egg is fertile, veins will be visible. If there's ever any question about an egg... incubate it. If it's not good, the egg will eventually go bad and you can throw it away. If it's connected to other eggs, just leave it. The connecting eggs usually grow and do just fine.
